SessionLab's AI Assistant helps you move faster when designing a session. You can use it to generate a first draft agenda, refine an existing plan, or get suggestions as you iterate, all directly inside the Session Planner.

You are then able to refine the output either yourself or by asking the AI Assistant to modify the plan it created. Alternatively, you can simply continue the conversation with the Assistant, and it’ll guide you through the session creation process.

How to save time by using the AI Assistant?

You can use the AI Assistant at several points in your planning workflow:

  • When creating a new session - generate an initial agenda based on goals and time constraints

  • When transforming existing materials into a new session - generate an agenda out of your Word documents, slides or notes

  • While refining an agenda - add activities, improve flow, or rebalance energy levels

  • When you need inspiration - ask for activity ideas, methods, or facilitation approaches

  • When polishing your content - adjust tone, simplify language, or translate your session

You can also ask the AI Assistant to automatically add categories to blocks, helping you visualize interaction types more clearly.

Note that the AI Assistant will only work with the input you directly provide to it, and does not access other information in your session.

Using the AI Assistant to generate your Agenda

You can use the AI Assistant to generate your full agenda from scratch, just with your input. You will find this option on the right-hand banner, under the AI Assistant.

When using the AI session generator, you’ll be asked to describe the session you want to create. A short prompt works, but more details lead to better results. For example:

“Create a half-day training session for facilitators on conflict management. Include a team-building activity and end with a shared set of internal guidelines.”

Once generated, you’ll see a full agenda made up of blocks with suggested titles, timings, and activity descriptions. From here, you can treat it exactly like a manually created session, edit blocks, adjust timing, or reorganize the flow.

Using the AI Assistant to plan and refine your agenda

At the heart of this feature is the Ask AI button - available at the top of every session and in the dropdown menu for each individual block:

You can use it to generate a full agenda, or take things further: after your session is generated, you can easily add or update blocks, tweak session details, or insert energizers and breaks - all with just a few clicks using the new Ask AI button.

You can also use built-in options to:

  • Translate the session into another language

  • Simplify language for a different audience

  • Make content shorter or longer depending on your needs

To add to this, we’ve improved the speed of our AI Assistant so you’ll now receive input faster than ever before!

Importing a Word or PDF document, Excel sheet or slides to create a Session

If you’re starting your workshop design from an existing document, you can easily turn that content into a structured session using SessionLab’s built-in AI Assistant.

There’s no need to jump between tabs or rebuild your agenda by hand. Simply upload your file and let the assistant take care of the structure for you in just a few seconds.

The AI Assistant currently supports the following input formats:

  • PDF

  • Word

  • Excel

  • PowerPoint

  • Images (for example, screenshots from online whiteboards)

  • Text files

To import an agenda from an existing document, just create a new blank session in your workspace, and you will be prompted to either start from scratch or import a file to create an agenda out of.

Choose to import agenda and choose the document that you'd like to import. You can read more in this article.

Generate blocks in your session with the AI Assistant

You don’t have to generate a full agenda to benefit from the AI Assistant. You can also use it to create individual blocks. This can be done by choosing Generate with AI once you click on the Add Block button.

Similar to session generation, you will be expected to enter a prompt that describes the block you'd like AI to create for you, such as the goal of the activity, number of participants, or icebreakers you'd like to see incorporated.

When you click on Generate activity, after entering your prompt, the AI will create a new block for you, which you can choose to keep, regenerate or delete. Like all blocks, it’s fully editable and reusable across sessions.

Make context-aware edits and improvements with the AI Assistant

The AI Assistant can help you refine or create an agenda by taking your workspace context into account.

For example, you can use the AI Assistant to add clearer facilitator instructions, adapt activities for a specific audience (such as leaders, new hires, or remote participants), or adjust the tone and level of detail to better match your session goals, based on the context you previously added to your workspace.

With custom AI guidelines, you can shape how the assistant supports you, whether you’re a solo facilitator with a signature style, part of a large consulting team using shared frameworks, or somewhere in-between

Use AI to turn a Page into an agenda

The AI Assistant doesn’t just help create and edit your session. It also connects preparation, delivery, and follow-up into a smoother end-to-end workflow.

If you’ve started your planning in Pages, for example with a workshop brief, needs assessment, or rough outline, you can use the AI Assistant to turn that content into a structured agenda.

When your Page includes goals, topics, or key questions, the AI can:

  • Create a logical session flow

  • Create agenda blocks based on your notes

  • Add timings and color categories

This is a fast way to move from early thinking to a first draft agenda without re‑writing everything manually.

Create a feedback Form from your agenda

Once your agenda is in place, you can also use AI to support follow‑up and evaluation.

Based on the structure and activities in your session, the AI Assistant can help you create a feedback Form linked to your session with relevant questions for different parts of the agenda.

This makes it easier to close the loop: design, run, and learn from your sessions using one connected workflow.

Tips for getting better results with the AI Assistant

To get the most value from the AI Assistant:

  • Write as detailed a prompt as you can

  • Be clear about outcomes rather than formats

  • Include time limits and group size when relevant

  • Treat AI-generated content as a starting point to further iterate

Combining your facilitation experience with the AI Assistant’s speed helps you move from preparation to delivery and follow‑up much faster, without losing intentional design.
