What is SessionLab?
SessionLab is a professional platform that facilitators use to design and plan your session. Depending on how your facilitator has set things up, you may be invited to take a look at the agenda, leave feedback, or work on the session together.
This guide explains what you might see and how to use it—no prior experience needed.
In the video below you can hear Carrin, explaining what you’ll see when you receive a link from a facilitator.
Three ways a facilitator may share a session with you:
The facilitator or training designer you are working with will choose the option that makes the most sense for your project. Here's what each one looks like from your side.
1️⃣ View the agenda — Online Agenda
You receive a link or QR code. No account needed.
You'll see a clean, high-level overview of the session plan. It's always up to date—if someone makes changes, you'll see them automatically next time you open the link. Good for sharing with your participants to give them an overview of what to expect.
2️⃣ Review and comment — Visitor Link
You receive a link that takes you straight into the session. No account needed.
You'll see the session your facilitator has put together and can leave comments on any part of it—on the whole session or on specific activities.
Each time you leave a comment, the facilitator will be notified of your comments. Next time you open the link, you might find changes already made, or their response for you to review. Much easier than back-and-forth emails.
If you sign-up for a SessionLab account, you can also choose to be notified by email when a facilitator replies.
3️⃣ Work on it together — Collaborator Access
You'll be invited to create a free SessionLab account.
Once you're in, you can move activities around, add ideas, and leave comments directly in the session — similar to collaborating on a shared document. Other collaborators will see your contributions in real time.
For many teams, color-coding their text depending on who has written it, or on how urgent a response is, is a key way to make collaboration smoother. (e.g. text can be color-coded red for “urgent”).
How to leave a comment
If you've been given a Visitor Link or Collaborator access:
Open the link your facilitator sent you
Click on the activity or block you want to comment on
Click the comment icon and type your note
Your facilitator will be notified and can respond
You can also leave a comment on the session as a whole if your thought applies to the overall plan rather than a specific activity.
